John was born in 1956 in Barnsley ,Yorkshire. Though a budding artist from the age of five,he went on to study the sciences at Broadway Grammar School and Sheffield University. After a few years working as a medical laboratory technician, John returned from travelling in Europe to open a Gallery in 1986 with his brother and fellow artist.

A keen bird watcher, walker and cyclist John has a passion for the outdoors , and the landscapes of The Lake District and Yorkshire dales in particular. This passion is evident in the fine paintings he produces. Originally creating exquisitely detailed watercolours of the farms and fells of Northern England, he is equally at home with larger studies in oils on canvas. Able to convey the moods and dramas of the ever changing Lakeland landscape, he also delights in capturing the details of the working rural farmsteads.
John’s recent work includes a series of Lakeland scenes , executed in acrylics in a subdued palette, focusing on the drama and atmosphere of the changing light.
